RISK MANAGEMENT

The risk management committee meets four times a year to review risk management in the Central Florida Council BSA and the National Boy Scouts of America.

Risk Management Committee Members:

Jeff Kosik – Risk Management Committee Chair

Gregg Harkness – Physical Resource Committee Chair

Bill Cowles – Camp Program Committee Chair

Dr. Daniel Miller – Camp Doctor

Bob Salas – Safety Specialist & Past Risk Management Committee Chair

Matthew Ragan – Director of Camps & Properties (Professional Staff Advisor)

Our committee plans two projects per year to reduce risk of injury and accidents.

2004 Project 1:  Purchase AED for camp & improve training for cardiac emergencies

Central Florida Council has purchased a Phillips Onsite AED for the camp.  The camp staff is in the process of getting certified by the American Red Cross.  The AED will be placed into the Florida Hospital Health Lodge for Cardiac Emergencies.   Also, camp is getting some staff and volunteers trained to be American Red Cross Instructors to provide additional training to leaders and scouts interested in obtaining the American Red Cross certifications.

2004 Project 2:  Health & Safety Training Opportunities for Council Volunteers

The Central Florida Council wants to educate our Unit and District Volunteers on Health and Safety.  The Council provided the Health & Safety Training Weekend at Camp La-No-Che in April 2004.  Another weekend is being planned for April 2005.

Please remember to follow the policies as set by the National Boy Scouts of America.

Are we allowed to shoot Rifles?  What is the policy on swimming and boating?  What is the policy on car travel?  What about Sports & Activities such as Judo allowed?
