HEALTH & SAFETY

Winter/Cold Weather Camping Alert!!

Please remember when camping in the cold some safety tips!

Dress in layers:  Inner Layer, Insulating Layer & finally the Shell Layer.  Dressing in layers allows you to remove layers as the day warm up and to add layers as a day gets colder.

When camping, DO NOT PLACE any open flames or charcoal into your tent.  Open flames and charcoal in closed areas will kill you with Carbon Monoxide Poisoning!

Cub Scout Council Event Check In Change

When families attend Camp La-No-Che for a Council Cub Scout event, the check in process on arrival has been changed due to the need of providing additional health and safety information.  The Check In process includes the idea of stations that your family will process through to learn about the Camp Safety procedures, Camp Rules, Campsite set up, parking guidelines and finally picking up your program information for the weekend.

In the fall 2004, we had two adults that were transported to Waterman Florida Hospital in Eustis after being bit by the same Pygmy Rattle Snake.  Also, when our BSA members visit Camp La-No-Che, they do no think about the different setting that they are staying compared to their home.  The Camp Program Committee and the Risk Management Committee developed a new plan to educate our Cub Scout families on these risks when they stay at camp.  During these meetings of the sub-committee, other dangers were discussed and we further developed our presentation to reduce the risk for our guest.

We appreciate the patience of our guest while we refine this process to improve the Camp La-No-Che Council Cub Program safety with minimal delay on your family in setting up their camp.

Our committee plans two projects per year to reduce risk of injury and accidents.

2005 Project 1:  Provide Council wide review of events and education to participants reducing risk and enhance safety

This project starts in fall 2005 at all Council Camp events and providing education to Council leadership through Council newsletter providing suggestions and details in improving event safety and reducing risk.

2005 Project 2:  Create Camp Emergency Response & Health & Safety Response team

The Central Florida Council will create an emergency response team trained to react to camp safety and risk.  The Camp will come up with team and a way to allow camp participants know who is in charge during Emergency Responses

Please remember to follow the policies as set by the National Boy Scouts of America.

Are we allowed to shoot Rifles?  What is the policy on swimming and boating?  What is the policy on car travel?  What about Sports & Activities such as Judo allowed?
